The first day of a shoot is always a little nerve racking for everyone involved. I for one, end up tossing and turning in my sleep the night before, always thinking about possible problems. Today, however, was certainly a joy to be a part of.
I always think its harder for the cast and crew on the first day. Unlike other professions, you don't see the same people every single day, so it can sometimes take a little while for everyone to gel and get into a rhythm.
After a fantastic breakfast, provided by Chiara Browning, the whole team was up and immediately ready for the challenge. Sammy Leigh (Make Up Artist) and Gabby Kovago (Costume Designer) got straight to work, preparing the actors for the day ahead, whilst John Danvoye (First AD) also made sure everyone else was on task with the schedule.
I must take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have helped behind the scenes. As mentioned above, Chiara Browning has worked incredibly hard providing us with muffins, cakes and biscuits every morning. I have also been lucky enough to be assisted by my mother, Susan, along with other members of my family have been cooking the lunches for us. A good friend of mine, Lizzie Mavers, has also agreed to join up and help the crew by looking after the on set props. Without these ladies, we would be lost, and I seriously mean that, so on behalf of the crew thank you for making our week easier.
Back to the shoot, our actors Ross Sutherland and Ray Whelan were also great fun to work with today. Mr Whelan has a day off tomorrow, but Ross will be back, along with Daniel Curshden and Genna Foden. The pair of them worked incredibly hard and I look forward to seeing them again soon. They really have provided us with some fantastic scenes.
Overall, we couldn't ask for more. We're on schedule and are working well. The main challenge is for us to maintain that standard and attack tomorrow with the same energy and enthusiasm. Its in our hands now and I can't wait to wake up and do it all over again. Well done to everyone involved.
